How to select proper circulator pump?

Water circulators are used in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. The right choice of the water circulator is very important for the correct functioning of your water system. When choosing a circulator, you must remember to distinguish between plants in which water flows in a "closed air circuit" or in a open circuit with taps. That is:
When the water circulates in a "closed circuit", the sufficient pressure for recirculation is close to zero and there is a quite balanced pressure system.
When the is a circuit with taps, the circulator must provide the necessary pressure to overcome the back pressure generated by the water column (water height = working height of the circulator).

The latest generation of circulators are designed to achieve up to 90% savings compared to traditional fixed speed circulators.

They represent the ideal product for:

New or pre-existing plants
Plants with zone regulation by thermostatic valves
Plants for single and multiple housing units
Heating systems (radiators) and underfloor heating

The choice of the right circulator is essential in order to guarantee an excellent performance. It is necessary to know the thermal difference Δt which is the difference in temperature between the delivery pipe Δm and the suction pipe of the plant Δr:  Δt = Δm - Δr with this important parameter you can obtain the flow rate expressed in liters/hour (lt/h).
There also is a constant given to the power for which the system is sized.

Ex:System that requires 20 kw of power

 Δt = 20K

The calculation of the flow rate is as follows: (20 kW X 860):20K = 860 lt/h

20 kW = power required by the system
860 = fixed number
20K = differential temperature
860 lt / h = flow rate required by the system

It is important to remember that the first heating systems were not equipped with circulation pumps, as warm water and hot air tend to rise upwards triggering an automatic circuit. So why is the recirculation pumps widely used? The circulators are used because usually the boiler is placed on a higher level than the pipes and radiators. But even where the boiler is below the level of use, a good water recirculation allows you to activate the desired climate control in just a few minutes. To install the right circulator, it is necessary to know the head losses of the system, so as not to select an undersized circulator. Head loss is associated with friction of the water against the internal surface of the pipes and restricts flow rate a circulator can produce. All circulator pumps are typically sized based on the head loss (pressure drop). The pressure drops must be calculated on every section of piping, fittings (curves, tees), valves, filters, radiators and components. It is normally provided by the plumber.

The energy savings of an electronic circulator

These circulators are equipped with a permanent magnet motor. They are characterized by durability and reability. The circulators on sale on Pippohydro comply with the E.u.P. and E.r.P. regulations. They are widely used in office buildings, commercial buildings, schools, hospitals, and for the recirculation of domestic hot water, and in air conditioning and heating systems.

Main freatures:

  • Self-cooled.
  • Energy savings ranging between 60 and 90% compared to traditional circulators.
  • Quietness and comfort.
  • Wireless communication (optional).
  • Thermal protection for the motor.
  • Materials of the latest conception and design.
  • High performance hydraulic motors
