How water lifting systems work?

Submersible pumps, water lifting systems for waste and sewage water designed to transport waste or sewer to a place of treatment at a higher elevation. The flow of drain-waste water depends on gravity: plumbing systems, where the fixtures are located below the level of the main sewer line, require some means of elevating for a proper flow.

On Pippohydro.com you can find wide range of sub sewage pumps of the best brands:
Speroni, CaprariDab, LowaraLeporisHydropompeEspaPentair waterBBCEuromatic, Ebara, Arven and Calpeda.

Pippohydro supplies water lifting stations with submersible pumps for drainage and relative accessories. Ideal for delivering clean and waste water to main sewer lines located at a higher level, or where gravity drainage is not possible.

In this section will be clarified the features and types of accessories in the sewage lifting stations (with one or two submersible pumps):

Tank function:

A septic tank is a chamber made of concrete, fiberglass, PVC or plastic, through which domestic wastewater (sewage) flows for primary treatment. It is a static sewer, which is normally used in the case of condominiums and groups of isolated houses and in general of all those utilities not served by the dynamic drain. This system, collecting and treating the black water (toilette) and gray water (washbasins, etc.) coming from the users, allows to satisfy the hygienic needs without carrying out purification works.
The storage tanks are supplied in sizes from 100 liters to 10,000 liters. Each tank must be correctly sized according to the needs of the system. A tank that is too small increases the start / stop of the pumps connected, but a tank that is too big facilitates the solidification of greases and detergents on the floats that drive the sub pump.

Submersible sewage pump and impeller:
The submersible pump is clearly an element of primary importance. Each wastewater pump is characterized by different types of impellers, which convey the waste into the pipeline. The impeller is the component through which the passage of the waste occurs, and its choice depends on the type of waste that the pump must convey.

Impellers:

The vortex impeller is the most widely used. It is characterized by a low hydraulic efficiency (low pressure) but but it succeeds in conveying waters with solids of a large diameter.
The monocanal impeller (or single-channel impeller) is characterized by high performance.
In public and highly frequented places there are used p
umps with shredding devices: the grinder pumps.

The
grinder pump is designed to handle raw sewage that is fed from underground gravity pipelines. Waste from water using household appliances (toilets, bathtubs, washing machines, sink, wc, bidet, shower, kitchen etc.) flows through the house’s pipes into the grinder electric pump’s holding tank. Once the wastewater into the tank reaches a specific level, the pump will turn on, grind the waste into a fine slurry, and pump it to the central sewer system or septic tank.

Lifting and lowering kit for submersible sewage pumps:
It is composed by an anchor basis installed on the floor, by a support device fixed on the wall and by a slide system (that connected the two reinforces).
This mounting system is very useful: it allows you to keep the sub pump in a short time and without getting dirty.

This special non-return valve is characterized by a heavy rubber ball which. It is free from periodic maintenance, however it can be inspected thanks to a door held by two (2) stainless steel screws.

Function of the electric float switch integrated in the pump
The submersible pump is automatically activates by the float. The switch may be used to control a pump, as an indicator or an alarm.
The electric float drives the pump to operate when the level of wastewater rises up and turns it off when the wastewater reaches the minimum level. The sub pumps with integred float are usually 230 Vac single-phase. But there are also some brands that produce three-phase submersible pumps with integral electric float (BBC and Hydropompe).

Why are special float-switches used for sewers?
A float switch is a device used to detect the level of liquid within a tank.
The use of special sewer float swiches reduces the time required for tank maintenance. Indeed, successful float switch installations minimize the opportunity for accumulation of dirt on the float that would impede its motion.

These floats can be coupled with an electrical control panel for the protection and management of the sub pumps, to guarantee the activation and deactivation of the  pumps.

Operation of special floats in sewer systems with one (1) submersible pump:

In systems with a submersible pump, operation is carried out by using two floats connected to an electrical panel: when the wastewater rises a float activates the pump. When the wastewater falls to the minimum level, a float stops the pump.

Operation of special floats in sewer systems with two (2) submersible pumps:

In systems with two submersible pumps, operation is carried out by using three floats connected to an electrical panel: when the wastewater rises a float activates the pump. When the wastewater falls to the minimum level, another float stops the pump. It activates the sub pump to allow the wastewater to be lifted and pumped to the public sewage system.

This starts a cycle of alternating operation between the two (2) pumps that will work ensuring an almost equal wear level. When a pump does not work or when it is not sufficient to dispose of the incoming waste, the level rises further reaching the emergency float. The emergency float gives consent to both pumps.

Alarm operation in systems with a submerged pump

When the wastewater rises above the normal operating level, the acoustic/luminous alarm is activated by means of the float which signals the anomaly.

Alarm operation in systems with two submersible pumps
When the wastewater rises above the normal operating level, the float switch activates the alarm and the second pump start in continuous operation. So there will be more time to intervene to restore the operation of the system.
