Clarification on the functionality of pumping stations

The following points specify the functionalities and the types of accessories for the sewage pumping stations (with one or two submersible pumps):

Lifting stations with submersible wastewater pumps

Tank function:
All sewage lifting stations consist of a wastewater storage tank. The main function of the tank is to keep the submersible pump in water. It is possible to buy them in different sizes ranging from 100 liters to 10,000 liters. It is very important to buy the right size tank. A small tank  increases the start/stop of the pumps applied in it, but a too large tank facilitates the solidification of greases and detergents on the floats that drive the pumps.

Submersible pump
function:
The submerible pump is of primary importance to plan the your water system correctly. The pumps are characterized by the use of different types of impellers, studied to convey the waste into the pipeline.

Impeller function:
An impeller is a rotor used to increase the pressure and flow of a fluid. In this case the impeller is the component through which occurs the passage of the waste water. The use of the right type of impeller guarantees a correct functioning of the whole system.

Most used impellers:
The vortex impeller is the most widely used. It is characterized by a low hydraulic efficiency but involves water with solids in suspension of a large diameter. The single-channel impeller characterized by higher hydraulic efficiency is also manly used. Pumps with shredders, the
grinding pumps are often used in public places; 'cause, thanks to the use of a special grinder in the suction, they are able to dilute the pumped wastewater in very fine parts.

Slide system function

The slide system (lifting and lowering kit) for submersible sewage pumps is very useful, because it allows you to keep the submersible pump in a short time and without getting dirty.

Non-return valve function
The
check valve, also known as non-return valve or reflux valve, is one of the most important drainage system accessories. It is a valve that normally allows fluid to flow through it in only one direction. The ball check valve is a check valve in which the closing member, the movable part to block the flow, is a ball, and it is mostly used in sewage systems.

Function of the electric float integrated in the pump
Its basic operation is to activate the submersible pump to allow the wastewater to be pumped into the public sewage system. If the emptying of the tank is sporadic, the user can manually operate the pump and wait until the tank is full. But in most applications it is necessary for the user that the pump to works automatically. For this reason the pumps are equipped with an electric float that starts the pump when the level of wastewater rises and stops it when the wastewater drops to the minimum level. Submersible pumps with float are usually single-phase 230Vac but there are also some manufacturers that make three-phase submersible pumps (like BBC and Hydropompe).

Operation of sewer floats in systems with one (1) submersible pump
In systems with one (1) submersible pump, operation is carried out by using two (2) floats connected to an electrical protection panel that manages the pump. When the wastewater rises a float activates the pump, when the wastewater falls to the minimum level, the other floats stops the pump.

Operation of sewer floats in systems with two (2) submersible pumps
In systems with two submersible pumps there are used three (3) floats and an electrical protection panel. When the wastewater rises a float activates the pump; when the wastewater falls to the minimum level, a second float will stop the pump. The system is characterized by the alternating functioning of the two (2) pumps that are used almost to the same extent. If one of the two pumps does not work or if it will not be sufficient to dispose of the incoming waste water, the water level will rise further by coming into contact with the emergency float.

Alarm operation in systems with a submersible pump
When the wastewater rises above the normal operating level, the maximum level alarm that can be reached is activated by means of a (1) float, which, thanks to an acoustic/luminous alarm, signals the anomaly. You must immediately intervene to restore the functionality of the system.

Alarm operation in systems with two submersible pumps
When the wastewater rises above the normal operating level, thanks to the float the maximum level aucustic/luminous alarm is activated. The wastewater will continue to rise and the emergency float will start the second pump so that there will be more time to intervene to restore the operation of the system.
