How to build DIY an economic drip irrigation system in few minutes

With good weather you have to pay close attention to our plants; in particular to those that have a greater exposure to the hot sun and that need more watering.

Furthermore, you must pay particular attention to the dried leaves that fade much faster
in summer; remember to eliminate them as they can promote the appearance of pests.

Not even the red spiders and cochineals are good friends of our plants.

How can you manage to water properly and at the same time enjoy your well-deserved holidays?

Just create a DIY irrigation system!

What do you need to make a drip irrigation system?

  • a carabiner
  • a tank for liquids with adjustable tap
  • a few meters of clothes line in rubber (the square footage will depend on the size of the tank you will buy)
  • a piece of gardening hose about 10 cm long and with a thickness equal to that of the tap of the tank.
  • a cork or rubber stopper of the same diameter as the piece of pipe
  • two connectors for drip system (or a larger number, according to your needs)
  • a few meters of distribution pipe for drip system

N.B. The greater the capacity expressed in liters, the more days that the plant will be able to water a more or less high number of plants and vegetables. These factors will also influence the number of connectors and meters of distribution pipe to be purchased.

Assembly

1. First of all, turn several times the clothes line around the tank.

Create a sort of harness, in which to pass the carabiner, so as to create a hook to hang the container.

2. Take the gardening hose and make two holes in the lower side.

Insert the connectors into the holes.

Now insert the cork (or the rubber) stopper at theend of the tube, just below the connectors.

53.  Connect the upper part of the tube with the adjustable tank tap.

4. Now cut the distribution pipe into two parts (or more depending on the number of connectors).

impianto_a_goccia_fai_da_teBefore installing the watering system, make a small hole in the upper part of the tank near the cap, in order to create an air suction that will facilitate the water outlet through the tap.

Your drip irrigation system is finally ready and just waiting to be put into operation.
You just have to fill the tank, place it at the chosen point, adjust the opening of the tap according to the amount of water needed by the plants and you're done.

The plants will have "to drink" and you will have your rest.
